- Shiq
- A territorial division cutting across the old revenue divisions in-troduced in the beginning of the 14th century. Under Muhammad bin Tughlaq's (1325-1351) regulations enforced in the 1340s, shiqs were created all over the empire. Marhatta country in the Deccan was, for example, divided into four shiqs, each headed by a com-mandant (shiqdar) who was instructed to deal with disaffected ami-ran-i sada harshly.
